The Grant Writing Resource Opportunity to Strengthen Community Wellbeing (GROW) Initiative is a new outreach effort of the Maternal Child Health Equity & Safety (MatCHES) Lab.
What is being offered:
Since January 2025 there has been unprecedented cuts to federal funding and programs that affect community-based organizations, public health departments, schools, and other entities serving the needs of diverse, often marginalized and vulnerable communities. As a result of these changing federal policies and decisions, communities and the various organizations that serve them have had to pivot and find alternative sources of funding to help keep their services and operations running. However, not all community organizations have the capacity (staffing, time, etc.) to seek new funding sources or apply for them. Some organizations have already identified potential funding sources but just need some extra help with grant proposal development.
The GROW Initiative provides pro bono support to eligible organizations seeking to secure new funding streams to support community-based programs. UW student GROW teams will be paired with organizations to collaborate on grant proposal development. With guidance from Dr Vang, an experienced grant writer with more than $12 million in secured funds, student GROW teams will produce grant proposals tailored to a specific program or initiative for which partner organizations are seeking funding.
Eligibility:
- Community-based organizations in Wisconsin with 501(c)3 status
- Local and Tribal health departments
